John Deery is the co-creator of Underground Ernie. John is an award-winning film and television director who hails from Merseyside, England.

Career[]

John first started work as an actor, and was a runner on commercials with some of England's most famous commercial directors. He attended the National Film & Television School's short course unit for directors in 1996, before going on to write and direct the 2003 independent film Conspiracy of Silence, which won several awards and starred co-creator of Underground Ernie, Sid Rainey.

In 2000, the pair formed Joella Productions, which was named after John's son Joe and Sid's daughter Ella.

During a brainstorming session, Sid came up with the idea for "a children's programme based on the names of tube stations" and Underground Ernie started from that. John budgeted a cost of £4 million pounds for 26 episodes, and £20,000 on a brochure for potential investors to buy Underground Ernie, and after six months of discussions, the BBC eventually bought Underground Ernie and the programme started airing in 2006.

Currently, John is trying to raise money for a new series of the show and other children's programming, as well as being the managing director of London-based film company Joejack Entertainment.
